The Wrestling Booking Sheet

FANTASY NITRO'S
Hot on the heels of Fritz Capp & Blake Norton outlining their own
versions of Nitro, the Booking Sheet has been bombarded with versions
written by our readers. Just about all of them have a nugget of
brilliance, and we will be bringing as many as possible to the
newsletter over the next week.

Unfortunately, we just don't have the space to print most of them.
Here's the criteria that does get one printed over another: first of
all (and obviously) creativity. Echoing
a booking plan already printed won't get you far; using spell check and
proofreading your work helps as well. The shorter your booking, the
better. If I get two bookings of the exact same quality, the shorter
one will always be printed...

WCW MONDAY NITRO, LIVE FROM:
MIAMI, FLORIDA
By Rick Phelps (wrestleric)

Opening
WCW Nitro began its fifth year by discussing the lack of trust between
wrestlers in WCW.

--Bret Hart made an in ring appearance. The "Hitman" said that he could
not make up his mind on anything, including wrestling full time on the
circuit, unless he could wrestle Hulk Hogan. Bret said that he would
not comeback unless he did get that one wish.

--Rikki Rachtman brought out the Nitro girls to promote the search for
the new Nitro girls. Two of the finalists were shown dancing and then
introduced to the crowd. It was announced that the way to vote was to
log on to WCW.COM.

Lodi w/Lenny versus Evan Karagias
At the beginning of the match, a fan was taken away by security who was
hitting Lenny on the back of the head with a sign (that said
Lodi
rules). Vampiro and the ICP made their way to the ring, which
distracted Karagias, who fell to a DDT by
Lodi.
Winner:
Lodi via pinfall

--Mene Gene interviewed Hulk Hogan. The Hulkster said he did not know
what Randy Savage was doing in his dressing room. He said that he
didn't know if Macho needed a chaperone or career advice. Hogan then
said that he does not know what Lex Luger's agenda is, but he needs to
stay out of his face because it is between him and Sting. He also said
that he was going to be involved in the six man tag team steel cage
match later in the evening.

--Tony Schiavone read a note from WCW telling fans to tune into Nitro
next week for a chance to win one million dollars.

Al Greene versus Barry Horrowitz
A man playing a piano set the background for Sid Vicious, who disposed
of both men.
Winner: No Contest

--Curt Hennig was in the back explaining to the
Windham brothers that
they would seek revenge against Harlem Heat at Fall Brawl since they
put Bobby Duncum Jr. out of commission. Vincent then entered the room
(wearing a vest and cowboy hat) saying that he was the biggest redneck
around and wanted to join the Rednecks. Hennig told Vincent that they
would give him the opportunity later in the night.

--Mene Gene interviewed Harlem Heat. Stevie Ray and Booker T said that
they had a score to settle with the West Texas Rednecks and would
become the nine time tag team champions at Fall Brawl.

--Sting and Lex Luger were walking down the hall discussing the events
of last week. They both walked into the dressing room to see Bret Hart
talking to Hulk Hogan. Sting told Hogan that he wanted five minutes of
his time. Hogan told Sting that he was sick of his crap and that he
had his five minutes. The lights then went out and there was some kind
of ruckus going on in the dressing room. After the commercial break,
the lights came back up and Sting had been knocked out. Hogan and
Luger were blaming each other.

--The rules of the battle royal were stated. The first four men thrown
over the top would be eliminated. The next six men will wrestle each
other in singles matches later in the evening. The last two men would
also wrestle later in the evening with the winner receiving a world
title shot next Monday on Nitro.

Battle Royal
The competitors were Hugh Morrus, Jerry Flynn, Barbarian, Brian Knobbs,
Vincent, Barry and Kendall Windham, Chris Benoit, Shane Douglas, Dean
Malenko, and Perry Saturn. (Curt Hennig was also slated to be part of
this Battle Royal, but did not compete.) Order of elimination: Brian
Knobbs, Vincent, Barbarian, Kendall Windham, Shane Douglas, Barry
Windham, Jerry Flynn, Perry Saturn, Hugh Morrus.
Winners: Chris Benoit and Dean Malenko (Face each other later in the
show)

--Clips from the "infomercial" Cat-Bo was aired.

Johnny Swinger versus Prince Iaukea
Vampiro and ICP attacked Swinger, allowing the Prince to cover for the
win. Again, Vampiro told Iaukea "you owe me."
Winner: Prince Iaukea via pinfall

--A video was shown of Buff Bagwell at an autograph session earlier in
the day. Berlyn approached, said something in German and walked away.
Buff jumped over the table but was held back by security.

Buff Bagwell versus Steve Regal w/Dave
Taylor
Bagwell put down the Englishman with his patented Blockbuster. Buff
then told the crowd that at Fall Brawl, Berlyn would not only be facing
him, but also the
United States of America.
Winner: Buff Bagwell via pinfall

Blitzkrieg/Juventud Guerrera/Psychosis versus Kidman/Eddie Guerrero/Chavo
Guerrero Jr. Eddie won this match for his team by pinning Psychosis
following a
frog splash as Vampiro and the ICP watched from the rampway. On a side
note,
there was some friction between Chavo and Kidman during the match.
Winners: Eddie Guerrero/Chavo Guerrero Jr./Kidman via pinfall

Kendall Windham versus Shane Douglas *Battle Royal Loser Match*
Curt Hennig was attacked by the Harlem Heat after he hit Shane Douglas
while the referee had is back turned. Stevie Ray hit
Windham between
the eyes with the slap jack, allowing
Douglas to hit the Pittsburgh
Plunge for the win.
Winner: Shane Douglas via pinfall

Jerry Flynn w/Jimmy Hart versus Barry Windham w/Vincent
*Battle Royal Loser Match*
After being hit by Vincent on the outside, Flynn walked back into the
ring and a DDT courtesy of Barry Windham.
Winner: Barry Windham via pinfall

--Mene Gene interviewed Berlyn. Through is translator, the "German
Machine" said that Americans should learn how to speak German. He
continued to verbally trash
America and its ways and said that he would
destroy Bagwell at Fall Brawl to kill the myth that
America is the
leader of the world.

Hugh Morrus w/Jimmy Hart versus Perry Saturn
*Battle Royal Loser Match*
Saturn took one for the Revolution with the "Rings of Saturn."
Winner: Saturn via submission

Chris Benoit versus Dean Malenko
The United States champion and his Revolution brother met in this match
to determine which man would receive a world title's shot next week on
Nitro. Sid stopped that notion when he interfered and attacked both
men. Benoit cleared Sid from the ring.
Winner: No Contest

Sid Vicious/Rick Steiner/Diamond Dallas Page versus HulkHogan/Goldberg
Hogan was attacked early in the cage while Goldberg was making his
entrance to the ring. On his way into the cage, he was attacked by the
Triad and thrown into the cage and then into the ring. Sting then made
his way to the ring, despite Luger trying to stop him. Hogan won the
match for his team after hitting Page with his patented leg drop.
Luger then jumped in the ring, screaming at Sting for helping Hogan.
Sting told Luger to get off of his case. When the Stinger turned his
back, Luger punched him. Sting retaliated by attacking Luger as the
cameras went off the air.
Winners: Hulk Hogan/Goldberg/Sting via pinfall

Ricks Comments:
--The lollipop brothers (Lenny and
Lodi) are getting on my nerves. They
have both proven that they have talent.....they need to show it instead
of being concerned with moronic signs and blow pops.

--What is up with Juvi......he dressed exactly like Kidman tonight.

--This thing with Sid is annoying. Benoit and Malenko were wrestling
in arguably one of the best matches of the night, and he steps in.

-- In case no one noticed, the bell rang prematurely in the main event.
What I am saying is that the bell rang before Hogan got the three
count on Page.

--This Nitro was almost perfect.......and then they showed that
ridiculous, idiotic, time wasting Cat-Bo commercial.

The Hardcore Truth
By Josh Hewitt (San316born)

It is the reason of every problem people have today--racism, sexism,
ageism, religious persecution all stem from its influence. It
destroys family values, it harms our freedom, it spits upon the memory
of the soldiers who died for our freedoms, and it says dirty words at
their funerals. It has knocked the space time continum out of whack so
that, in a matter of days, we will all be transported back to 2000 BC.
What am I talking about? What has caused so much strife? Well, I'll
tell you. Two little words..............Sports Entertainment.

Or at least you'd think so, reading Madspector's letter in issue #298.
He seems to be on a crusade against "storylines" that most people
reserve for teen movies. (hey, I wanted to see some people die for
"She's All That").

Once again, I saw a wrestling "purist" take the stage, and command the
little ones who came into the sport thanks to Austin to go home, get a
life, and stop pretending that they are wrestling fans. He (and I use
the term he here, because I'm a sexist pig) then punctuates his column
with examples of story lines, and why they are stupid. Wrestling is
not a soap opera. its not.

But, now let's look logically at this. Is the term "Sports
Entertainment" a bad one? Well, first of all, let's define the two
words. Sports are athletic conflicts between two people or teams in an
organized rule-based system. Definately, wrestling is that.

Entertainment is something that people find entertaining. Here again,
wrestling fits the bill. BUT, really and truthfully, the Superbowl
fits the bill. I'm entertained greatly by Hockey and Football, so
wouldn't that be sports entertainment?

Okay, then I took a look at the story lines, and how they differ from
an angle. The only clear difference I saw was the length of time they
possess. Now, why is an angle good, but when it goes on its bad? Can
someone give me a time when it turns bad? One show? Two shows? Then,
in his list of storylines, Madspector brings in a character (Debra)
rather than a story line. This would be like saying "I hate stupid
horror movies. They're plots are retarded. Especially FrEddie ".

Now, are the storylines and stuff of wrestling bad? I don't think so.
If wrestling catered to the ideas of Madspector, well, as SamJerry
pointed out not too many issues ago when dealing with the marketability
of WCW, it'd disappear. Maybe "pure" wrestling is an art form, but
its a thing of the past. And, I like it that way.

Life is much more enjoyable with Debra in it, as well as storylines,
because angles might make you like the show, but storylines will keep
you turning back. They sell tickets with storylines, they sell ppv's
with storylines, and that brings more money in, gets better atheletes
and gives us, the fans, better matches. Wrestling isn't a soap
opera, its a business, and right now, its doing what it needs to
survive and prosper.
