ECW/TNN RATINGS FOR
10/22/1999
Reported by Dave
Scherer at:
http://www.1wrestling.com
ECW on TNN maintained
a 1.2 rating for the second week in a row; the
T&A formula seems to
be paying off big time as we head into November To
Remember.
DAVE MELTZER ON EYADA.COM
Most of you have heard
of Dave Meltzer & The Wrestling Observer, though
many of you have not
been exposed to The Observer (you don’t know what
your missing). Meltzer
is also doing a free daily internet radio show,
which can be found at:
http://www.eyada.com
The two hour show can
be heard live from
6:00 PM-8:00 PM on the East
Coast, and
3:00 PM-5:00 PM on the West
Coast. Meltzer & co-host Bryan
Alvarez discuss all of
the breaking news stories of the day, and have
had quite a variety of
featured guests (highlights include Chris
Benoit, Vince Russo,
Terry Funk & Jim Cornette).
The previous days show
is available to listen to at any time; those of
you who really have a
deep interest in the inner-workings of wrestling
really do need to
check this out! Meltzer is generally considered the
top wrestling
journalist in the history of the business (not an
exaggeration, and
almost without argument), and you will benefit by
being exposed to his
knowledge of the business.

Before the show, the
New Age Outlaws told Vince McMahon that they want
their tag team titles
back. Vince said he can't give them a shot
because Edge &
Christian are facing the Hollys. Triple H came in the
locker room and said
he doesn't want to face Mankind. Badd Ass said
Triple H was scared.
Triple H told him to shut up, and told McMahon to make
them face somebody so
they would "shut up". Triple H came up with the
idea to make the
Outlaws to face the Rock and
Austin! McMahon then made
the match official!
Backstage, the
Godfather was looking for Mark Henry. He found the door
he was in, then kicked
it out finding Henry with all the ho'z! They
then went to the ring.
Viceria and Mideon came to the ring. Viceria got
the mic and said he
wants the match to be a "winner take ho match". The
Godfather accepted.
During the match, Mark Henry did something allowing
Viceria to win! After
the match, Viceria and Henry doubled teamed on
the Godfather. The
ho'z went with Viceria, but two. Viceria then jumped
on both of them,
including the Godfather!
- Backstage, the Rock
said he doesn't care about teaming with
Austin,
but come Survivor
Series, he'll destroy
Austin. In the ring, for the
tag team championship,
the Holly's defended against Edge & Christian.
During the match,
Brian Christopher and Scoot Taylor came to the ring
and attacked Edge and
Christian! The Hardy's came down and attacked
them off! Backstage,
Moolah and May Young were making up.
- Moolah and May Young
came to the ring. Moolah said that she is unable
to defend the women's
title a lot at her age, and she has decided to
officially retire!
Ivory came down with some funny stuff saying that
she wants a another
title shot. May Young attacked her from behind
creating a brawl
between the two.
Backstage, Prince
Albert talked to the Big Show, saying he's not the
Bossman, and he would
never make fun of sick fathers or anything like
that, and he just
wants to face the Big Show to test himself in the
ring.
- The Big Show fought
Prince Albert. During the
match, the Big Bossman
came out and was
holding some small clock. The Big Show threw
Prince
Albert
outside and started to walk to the Bossman, but he told him
to
stop. The Bossman said
he went to the hospital and took a small clock
out of Wright's
father's hand and threatened to smash it!
Prince Albert
attacked the Big Show
from behind allowing the Bossman to hit him with
a bar, knocking Wright
off the ramp! The Bossman then smashed this
clock on the table!
- Intercontinental
Champion Chyna came to the ring, and teamed with
D'Lo Brown. Chris
Jericho came to the ring and got the mic and asked
which one in the
audience wants to team with him. He picked some women
out of the audience,
which was really Stevie Richards dressed as a
women to team with
Jericho. During the match,
this woman tried to hit
Chyna, but got her
clothes ripped off, revealing Stevie Richards. Chyna
pedigreed Richards to
win.
Jericho attacked Richards
after the match.
Backstage, Vince
McMahon was looking at Mick Foley's book while Mankind
came in. Mankind
thanked him for the title shot. McMahon then asked
Mick why he thought
his facial expressions are the best in the business
when he is scared?
- Triple H defended
the WWF Title against Mankind. During the bout,
Mankind tried for Mr.
Socko, but Triple H moved, which hung Mankind in the
ropes! Eventually,
Mankind got out and the brawl went through the
crowd. Later, Triple H
tried for the chair, but it was taken from him by the
ref. Mankind struck
him with the belt, but it didn't end there. Later,
while Mr. Socko was
applied on Triple H, Val Venis came down and hit
Mankind with a chair.
Al Snow came down and helped Mankind out.
- Backstage, Michael
Cole asked Stone Cold Steve Austin what he thought
about teaming with the
Rock. Austin said that he has no problem with
the Outlaws, and as
for the Rock, he has respect for him, but they are
not friends, and he
better not get in Austin's face.
Kevin Kelly
interviewed Kane and X-Pac. Kane said in his low voice that
Tori told him not to
make fun of Bubba Ray, and now he'll have to beat
him. Kane told X-Pac
to stay out of the match, and X-Pac had no problem
with it. The
Dudley's attacked both men
after this.
Backstage, while Shane
McMahon and Test were talking, Stephanie McMahon
told Micheal Hayes
that she is starting to feel better, and is starting
to regain memory, and
she is looking forward to her wedding.
- The
Dudley's Boys came down and
Bubba started to make fun of Kane
with his voice box.
Kane then came down and started the match. During
the match, the
Dudley's both got in the ring
and attacked Kane.
Backstage, Tori was
telling X-Pac to get to the ring and help his
friend. Later, X-Pac
came down and scared off the
Dudley's. Kane didn't
look happy with it.
- In a steel cage
match, the Bulldog fought Test. During the match,
while Test was getting
over the cage, the Posse came through the crowd
and got in the cage
and attacked Test. Before that, Test jumped off the
high cage onto the
Bulldog! Shane McMahon came down and jumped off the
cage onto the Posse!
Later, they all destroyed Shane. Test fought them
off later. Stephanie
came down and helped her brother. Backstage, the
New Age Outlaws were
preparing for their match.
- Backstage, Triple H
told the Outlaws they're getting their @$$ kicked
tonight. At a bar, the
Acolytes were getting a beer. Some people
challenged them to an
arm wrestling match. All this turned into a huge
bar fight between
everybody in the bar!
- The New Age Outlaws
fought the unlikely team of Stone Cold Steve
Austin and the Rock.
This was a back and forth slow paced match. Later,
the Rock got a hold of
the Outlaws. During this, Triple H came down to
attack the Rock, but
Austin fought him off,
leading to a brawl on the
ramp. The Rock gave
Badd Ass the rock bottom, but X-Pac came down and
hit the Rock. Then,
Triple H, Road Dog, Gunn, and X-Pac all attacked the
Rock and
Austin. In the end of the
show, DX was reunited!!

A LONGTIME FAN GIVES
UP WRESTLING
Written by reader:
Eric (Hogefan)
I'm quitting wrestling
until Russo and Ferrera get fired.
There no longer is
wrestling on TV. So the Outsiders are shown in a
match with breasts,
because in wrestling, T&A is much more important
than wrestling
matches.
And in wrestling, its
much more entertaining to hear guys cuss and
threaten to kick
somebody's ass, even though the ass kicking always
comes in the form of
run-ins and backstage beatings. Does anybody beat
anybody anymore in the
ring? Oh yeah, Goldberg does. Gotta admire what
Russo's done for
Goldberg's character. Prior to Havoc, Goldberg's best
match of his career
was against
Sting, in a match that
ended with Goldberg in the Scorpion, and Sting
getting screwed in a
run-in. So Russo, in all is genius, has Sting
completely squashed,
which diminishes Sting's ability to beat Goldberg
without the aid of
run-ins by guys who have baseball bats, crowbars,
.38's, etc. Good job,
Russo. But I could be overreacting.
In the Bam Bam Bigelow
vs. Smiley match (tournaments never should be
for the World title.
The US Title would be a good forum for this), Bam
Bam crushes a trash
can over Smiley's head. Then, with the same can
over the head of
Smiley, Bam Bam bumps his head on the practically
stationary trash can
and gets knocked out. Makes no sense, its
insulting to the
intelligence
of wrestling fans, but
it DID surprise me! I guess the mission was
accomplished.
Besides...breasts are
coming up! WOO
HOO!!!! And after all, you
can't
have a wrestling match
without gratuitous breast shots. Hey, maybe on
the next PPV, Nash
will pee on somebody. It makes perfect sense,
because its entirely
unexpected.
So going back to
Goldberg, since Bam Bam can barely touch a trash can
with his head and get
knocked out (only moments after smashing the same
can over Smiley), I
guess an invincible Goldberg can get put in
Smiley's chicken wing
and record his first clean loss in his career.
Even though it would
make no sense, it WOULD be shocking. And what's
the point of making
sense when WCW has now turned into a 3 hour sitcom?
This isn't a strip
joint. Wrestling matches shouldn't involve women
jiggling their
breasts. That should be reserved for strip joints. Even
WCW doesn't have women
going this far. Congrats to WCW for pushing the
envelope farther (at
the expense of wrestling).
What happened to Ted
Turner's morals and views on "family TV"? I guess
when it comes to
values and morals and drawing a line over which you
cannot cross, nothing
stacks up to the importance of ratings.
If Russo and
Ferrara are so damn
creatively talented, let's see them
put on a winning
"WRESTLING" show. They left WWF because there were no
challenges left and
they wanted new challenges? YEAH RIGHT! They ran
out of ideas, which is
why they're turning
WCW into the federation they've all ready
created. Some
challenge. Well, they've succeeded. Now, since there's
nothing more to do in
WCW, maybe they can accept a new "challenge" in
ECW.
I couldn't care less
anymore. Wrestling angles completely fail to
make sense (Val Venis
wants to entice Mankind into accepting a match
with him, so while
Mankind is about to win the match, Venis ruins it
for him. That makes
sense. Even an idiot would've waited till Mankind
won the match before
attacking him. Then, the match would be for the
title). Good wrestling
will no longer
be rewarded, as its
taken a back seat to mic abilities and sense of
humor. Under the
current system, do you think Benoit will EVER get a
World or US Title shot
again? Keep dreaming.
So you guys can have
this crap. I'm finished with it. Monday Not
Football, all the
way...even the commercials. The stupid, immature and
inconsistent stories
and the lack of wrestling isn't why I started
watching the sport in
the first place.

fan)

NITRO IS WAR
Written by reader:
DXDGNR8CHK
Nitro has only been on
for about a half an hour, and, ugh. I'm
watching and I am
expecting to see the Undertaker or Vince McMahon come
out. I love WCW, I do,
but they have got to stop this. It is waaaay too
similar to the WWF.
Already, I have
noticed many similarities. First off, Madusa in a
World Title
Tournament? Chyna, Royal Rumble, maybe Madusa will end up
with the Cruiserweight
or US Title.
Second, the Kidman Cam
{KC}. The Outlaws had something like
that, didn't they?
Check the DX Home Video for an example of that. I
have said it before, I
love WCW, they have amazing talent, and they can
definitely compete
with the WWF, but they need something different. You
cannot put out the
same product with a different label. That is not how
beating your
competition
works. Soon every fan
will notice this, and they may very well get
sick of it all and not
watch either company at all.
I am not here to take
a side in the never ending WCW vs. WWF wars. I am
here to say that the
fans want what they want. But, IMO, what the fans
want is NOT another
WWF.
