FOLEY BOOK A BESTSELLER
Reported by Al Isaacs
at:
http://www.scoopswrestling.com
Mick Foley's book
"Have A Nice Day" is set to debut at #3 on The New
York Times Bestseller
List.
Having received the
book through Amazon.com yesterday, the early
chapters are proving
to be very entertaining. its an easy read
(although 508 pages, I
have a feeling that it will be devoured
quickly). Foley proves
to be as compelling on paper as his interviews
would lead you to
believe, and its definitely worth checking out.
FRANK SHAMROCK RETIRES
FROM
MMA
Reported by Zach
Arnold at:
http://www.otherarena.com/
Frank Shamrock, the
adopted brother of Ken Shamrock, has announced his
retirement from Mixed
Martial Arts (UFC,
Pancrease, legit, not
pre-determined).
His future plans are
unknown at this point; I would personally expect
to see him turn to
professional wrestling. Rather than debuting in the
WWF I would expect New
Japan to make a serious grab for Shamrock to
enhance their already
strong stable of former shoot style champions.
At this point, though,
Shamrock has not announced his future plans.
DAVE MELTZER ON EYADA.COM
Most of you have heard
of Dave Meltzer & The Wrestling Observer, though
many of you have not
been exposed to The Observer (you don't know what
your missing). Meltzer
is also doing a free daily internet radio show,
which can be found at:
http://www.eyada.com
The two hour show can
be heard live from
6:00 PM-8:00 PM on the East
Coast, and
3:00 PM-5:00 PM on the West
Coast. Meltzer & co-host Bryan
Alvarez discuss all of
the breaking news stories of the day, and have
had quite a variety of
featured guests (highlights include Chris
Benoit, Vince Russo,
Terry Funk , & Jim Cornette).
The previous days show
is available to listen to at any time; those of
you who really have a
deep interest in the inner-workings of wrestling
really do need to
check this out! Meltzer is generally considered the
top wrestling
journalist in the history of the business (not an
exaggeration, and
almost without argument), and you will benefit by
being exposed to his
knowledge of the business.

ROUNDING THE SQUARED
CIRCLE
By
SamJerry
This is in response to
the reader that thought ECW would provide a
haven for WCW fans
unhappy with the new direction of WCW. I am one of
the Columnists that
said I didn't feel ECW would suffice. From your
letter, it appears
that you have mostly seen ECW on TNN and are basing
your views on this.
The ECW show that airs
on TNN is a very "sanitized" version of ECW's
product. The TNN show
has carried several outstanding matches between
Rob Van Dam vs. Jerry
Lynn the first couple of months. I agree they
were fantastic
matches, involving two excellent workers.
ECW Hardcore TV,
formerly the ECW Syndicated Show, contains a lot more
"promo" type material,
with a considerable amount of bleeping. The
promo time is usually
expanded the show before a PPV. It is not
uncommon for everyone
on the PPV card to be given time. You can see
some of this on the
ECW
Hardcore TV Reports on
my Web Page:
http://members.aol.com/samjerry
If you had ever
attended an ECW house show, you would have witnessed a
lot of in-ring promos,
containing some "colorful" language. When Bubba
Ray Dudley was in ECW,
he incited several near riots with his material.
There are others in
ECW that can also incite the crowd.
With Turner
Broadcasting apparently relaxing their standards, it is
possible that TNN will
as well. Should that happen, you would probably
see a lot more promo
type material then you do now. While ECW may
appear to be a viable
alternative since
IMO they have the best
matches
available, in
actuality it really isn't.

THE CAMCORDER
Written by reader:
MillenniumMN23
For those people that
don't know, Syxx didn't started the cam thing.
It was Shawn Michaels
back in 1995 or 1996 which he call the Kliq Cam.
But I do agree that
WCW is turning into the WWF.

DX AS HEELS
Written by reader:
Matt Cimini (psychocim@xxxxs...)
In response to
"Clarification" WBS #369 by
Sting833:
After reading the
thoughts of Chris M. about the "Main Eventers"
situation in the WWF
and about their top stars I felt that I had to add
my two cents. Just
because Triple H joined DX does not mean that he has
instantly become a
face. For the past 3 months he has
repeatedly drawn the
most heat out of the fans that I have ever seen.
I attended RAW this
past Monday in Providence, RI and after the show
had gone off the air,
DX was already criticizing the fans, calling them
such things as
"pussies" and "scum". In fact they
continued to downgrade
the WWF's two top faces (Austin
and Rocky) by
spitting on them and
kicking them while they were down.....drawing some
extreme heat from the
fans. It will not be long before the creative
minds in the WWF have
these guys as the #1 heels in the company.
As for his thoughts on
Chris Jericho being one of the top 3 heels I
again will have to
disagree. At RAW the other night for his match with
Chyna and D-Lo, he
drew one of the biggest pops of the night. Fans
love Y2J's mic skills
and his ability to work a great match and I agree
with Chris M. in his
thought of Jericho possibly getting a title shot
at Wrestlemania but I
do not believe he will be there as a fill-in
heel. Thanks for
listening to my ideas.

THE
NEW STORYLINES WILL ENHANCE
WCW
Written by reader:
MrsLiz
To be perfectly clear
with what's going on in wrestling is that
people were bored with
the Rock N Roll Express (Good guys) against the
Midnight Express (Bad
guys) good guy babyface Vs nasty pull your hair
bad guys. It was great
while it lasted but you can only have that for
so long before it runs
its coarse. In this instance it ran for over 10
years!
I never understood how
people complain so much about the state of
wrestling and right
now it is bigger then it EVER was! I live on the
West coast and there
was a long period of time where WCW never even
came out here. I
didn't even get to see some of the greats like Ric
Flair or Dusty Rhodes
in their prime. I got to see them for the past 4
or 5 years, but
instead of being glad that Wrestling has finally gotten
to he point where it
can make it
we are constantly
hearing people bad mouth what obviously a huge
following LOVES to
watch and be a part of.
For all of the people
out there that talk bad about the WWF's formula
of entertainment . . .
you will soon find out that it WORKS! That is
EXACTLY what people
want when you see WCW skyrocket to a parallel with
the WWF, if not pass
them. Remember that only about 5% of fans wanted
to see another 45
minute Dean Malenko Vs Juventud Guerrera match on
Nitro. This is not to
confuse the fact that the WRESTLING is very
important, however the
storylines must also be there. If they are not
then what you have is
a multi million dollar roster that is in jeopardy
to
falling into third
place behind a $100,000 stunt man roster from
Philadelphia, which is
exactly where WCW was a month ago.
I have never met one
single wrestling fan from all the WCW shows I have
been to in the last 5
years that was a Dean Malenko fan. In fact, most
people made fun of him
or merely said that
WCW should get rid of
him. Now thanks to the WWF's formula of
entertainment and
storylines mixed in with the wrestling you can
already see Dean
getting some heat. Even Shane Douglas was in danger of
being a flop in WCW
and now will get over. So before all you Wrestling
purist get all bunched
up down
there... .Down where,
you ask? You know where! Save it because this is
what's best for
Wrestling, which by the way, simpletons, was NEVER a
sport and was ALWAYS
entertainment.

Steve Appy
responds:
To be fair, I think
that Dean Malenko has always had a pretty steady
following of fans. I
know that has ranked among my personal favorites
since 1996, and I
don't think that I'm alone here, am I?

THE ELUSIVE GOOD, AS
OPPOSED TO BAD, INTERVIEW
Written by reader:
Tina J Jones (edgeluvr)
Let me get this
straight: People have been complaining about the old
Nitro. They've also
been complaining about the new Nitro. I'll be
happy if they keep
Hogan off TV (no more 20-minute interviews). As for
the WWF; as I'm a
woman I don't approve of them being abused but at the
same time the
performers don't seem to have a problem with it, do they?
Me being a wrestling
fan (a pure one that is) think there needs to be
some spice to
wrestling programs or no one will watch. Also I do think
the WWF needs to
showcase more of the mid-card talent instead of Stone
Cold and the Rock
doing their long interviews.
My point is; I love
the action and storylines if they're not too goofy
(the Rock and Sock
Connection); I don't like the sleep-inducing
interviews done by
headliners. Thank you!
